QuickBooks Spam Alert!

th

Be on the lookout for an email from ‘Intuit’ telling you your credit card was declined; chances are it’s another round of spam/phising ploys! This is another incarnation of spam emails seemingly from Intuit that looks very real. Do NOT Click on any links!

All QuickBooks users need to be very, very careful. The email uses the Intuit logos, trademarks, colors and other information to make it seem legitimate.

The emails are being sent to both desktop and online users, as well as payroll.  Many spam filters will catch this; however there are a number that will not.  I’ve received at least one of these every day for over a week; and some days I’ve received three or four. I have to be honest, the very first one that showed up in my inbox looked like the real thing at first glance; a few things raised the red flag for me:

  • It was sent to ‘undisclosed recipients’ – telling you that it’s a bulk email
  • It says ‘Dear user’ instead of the name on my account
  • I don’t use Intuit Payment Essentials
  • There is no such thing as ‘Intuit Payment Company’

Here is an example of the email I received in case it makes it past your spam filter. There are a

few different ones being circulated, so be careful.

If you actually click on the link, you will be redirected to a non-Intuit site of course; however the

screen that comes up also looks surprisingly real.

Something to be aware of: Intuit will NEVER ask for a Social Security Number as part of their log

in.

The left-hand side uses the same layout/wording as Intuit, even the font is the same; not to

mention the logo. The only visual item that is different is the box asking for your social security

number. Pretty scary!

Again, if you receive this email, do not open or click any of the links! If you feel the need to

check your account; go to the Intuit website directly – never through an email. And please

spread the word!
