Unfortunately with the rollout of the new Affordable Care Act there will be plenty of new scams and phishing attempts. Please be VERY careful of any calls, emails, or even snail mail asking for personal information. The amount of phishing scams via email is already on the rise and scammers are getting better and better these days.
Do NOT divulge ANY personal information in response to ANY email requests you receive. If you think the email may be legitimate; open a new browser window and type in the official link … do NOT copy/paste anything from the email that was sent to you. It’s better to Google a site than to use anything that was contained in the email. The same goes for phone calls; ask the ‘agent’ for a number so you can call them back later – then do your research. It’s very easy for unsavory characters to spoof a phone number; so either use a number you’ve used before or do your own search for the phone number.
Of course this isn’t limited to the new health care rollout; but it does give them a whole new audience to target.
